Now in Season: Strawberries

Plump, red, and loaded with vitamin C, here’s how to keep these luscious berries at their tastiest:

•      Refrigerate promptly: Strawberries are highly perishable and don’t ripen further after being picked — leaving them at room temperature will only speed up their decay. Place berries in a shallow container and cover.

•      Don’t wash until ready to eat: Hold off on washing strawberries until you’re ready to eat them — the excess moisture created by washing makes berries spoil faster.

•      Use within three to seven days: Strawberries will keep at top quality in the refrigerator for up to seven days; you can also freeze them for longer-term storage, as detailed here.

Tip: Bring strawberries to room temperature before serving — they’ll taste juicier and sweeter.
